Built by GMD in March 1958 as Canadian Pacific GP9 8818, CP Rail GP9u 1602 was found at new owner Respondek Railroad Corporation's facility in Granite City, Illinois, on October 4th, 2014.

Due to the GM holiday shutdown, CP 1602 has been idling for a week or so with no work. Note the spark arresters. These are attached to all of the Oshawa assigned GP9s for working inside the plant.
